RAIN interrupted the opening day of the Australian Country Cricket Championships at Mount Gambier yesterday, but NSW battled the conditions to be in a strong position against Victoria.
Teams waited until 2pm before they could make a start because of wet surrounds. The match was reduced to 83 overs each.
NSW batted first and were well placed at 8-210 at stumps. They will face another four overs today.
``If we can get a score of 230 or 240 in the morning, I think we are in a reasonable position," NSW Country captain Simon Moore said last night.
Former Wallsend opener Aaron Alley top-scored for NSW with 61.
Hamilton-Wickham all-rounder Darren Herbert (26), Moore (25) and Michael Gerits (27) all made starts but could not deliver the matchwinning innings.
Belmont all-rounder Brad Bannister was out for one, and Merewether fast bowler Duncan McIlveen is scheduled to come in next.
South Australia were bundled out for 113 by the new East Asia Pacific side but fought back to have the new boys 3-18 at stumps.
