FORMER Newcastle batsman Jamie Brazier scored the first century of the 2003-04 Australian Country Championships to put his side in a strong position against Queensland at Mount Gambier.
Brazier, who played for Merewether last season before returning to his native Papua New Guinea, is playing for East Asia Pacific, who are making their debut at the championships.
The talented right-handed batsman was unbeaten on 104 at stumps in a second innings total of 3-140 after being bundled out for 52 in their first innings at Marist Park.
Queensland closed their first innings at 4-156.
NSW Country are facing their second defeat in as many matches after a poor batting display against South Australia yesterday at Frew Park.

NSW Country scored 242 in their first game against Victoria after Aaron Alley (61), Darren Herbert (30), Moore (26) and Michael Gerits (21) scored runs.
In reply, Victoria scored 8-247.
Queensland escaped with a miraculous tie in their first game against Western Australia after taking a hat-trick when the scores were level.
